About the Special Libraries Services Department

Profile

The Special Library Services Department (SLSD) was established in 2012. The department is charged with monitoring and evaluating the operations of all special libraries located within government ministries and departments, state enterprises and agencies in Trinidad and Tobago to ensure that international benchmarks in information management standards are maintained. The SLSD currently has responsibility for thirty-two (32) special libraries throughout the country. These are located in twenty-one (21) government ministries, departments, agencies and state enterprises.

To be the knowledge management touchstone for the network of NALIS special libraries

Mission of the SLSD

To provide strategic and expert guidance to government departments for the development of all aspects of special library services by building and maintaining special partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting supervisory visits, meetings and training sessions with staff assigned to the various special libraries.
  • Advising public sector Heads of Departments on strategic activities affecting the library service in their organisations.
  • Providing assistance in establishing a library or information service within a government ministry, department or agency.
  • • Advising on library design, layout and the acquisition of library related goods and services.
