TTIPO and NALIS partner to Commemorate World Intellectual Property Day!
May 5, 2026
On April 23, NALIS proudly partnered with 10 Latin and Ibero embassies to commemorate Spanish Language Day at the National Library. The celebration brought together culture, language and community in a vibrant showcase of Hispanic heritage.
Representatives from each embassy, as well as Noemi Espinoza Madrid, the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), delivered engaging readings in Spanish, giving the packed Pamella Benson Audio Visual Room a rich and authentic experience of the language's rhythm, beauty and diversity. Attendees were further delighted with a sampling of delicious treats, further promoting cultural exchange.
Participating countries this year were: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Spain and Venezuela.
Spanish Language Day is observed on April 23 in honour of the anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, the renowned author of "Don Quixote" and one of the most influential figures in Spanish literature. The day recognises the global significance of Spanish language and its contributions to culture, literature and conversation.
Libraries play a vital role in promoting linguistic diversity and cultural understanding. Through events like this, and the provision of its Spanish and other Foreign Language Collections at the Port of Spain Adult Library, NALIS continues to provide spaces where language is celebrated, stories are shared and communities are connected.
