The novel Green Days by the River is Nalis’ selection for its eight One Book, One Community (OBOC) Nationwide Reading Project. The launch of OBOC was held at the National Library on April 28 in front of an eager audience.
At the launch, author and historian, Michael Anthony expressed his appreciation to Nalis for selecting his book Green Days by the River, which was first published 50 years ago. Additionally, Anthony said that he was pleased that a film based on the book will be released in September.
Neil Parsanlal, chairman of the Board of NALIS who also spoke at the launch said he was delighted the reading project resumed after a four year hiatus. He said that the project is intended to promote the reading habit, bring persons together to read the same book and participate in a number of activities at public, school and special libraries across the country. He urged everyone to visit a public library to borrow the book.
Minister of Public Administration and Communications, Maxie Cuffie in delivering the feature address reminisced about his early years and his love for reading as well as the influence Anthony’s novels had in shaping his future.
Christian James, the film’s producer, thanked all the corporate partners who have come forward to support the production of the film. These include: Bmobile, BPTT, Look Opticians, Eximbank, Lonsdale Saatchi and Saatchi, The Canine Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company and Nalis. Bmobile, BPTT and Scotia Bank Foundation have also given their support to the Nalis OBOC.
