The National Library and Information System Authority thanks all those who facilitated and attended lectures, visited exhibitions and generally participated in making its Indian Arrival celebration a success.

NALIS libraries throughout the country hosted Indian Arrival Day celebrations in the form of exhibitions and lectures. The response by students and teachers and other visitors to the libraries was overwhelming.

The Heritage Library Division and the Children’s Library of the National Library displayed historic documents of Indian immigrants, a list of food rations allowed for each for immigrant per ship, books on Indian culture, Indian cooking utensils and photographs and Indian fashion.

Throughout the month of May, the Heritage Library also featured videos on the Legacy of our ancestors: the Indian Presence In Trinidad and Tobago and Trinidad and Tobago East Indian Cultural Heritage Extracts.

Deoroop Teemal, National Secretary of the Hindu SWAY AMSEVAK SANGH and Mayor Surujuttan Rambachan were among those who facilitated lectures at the National Library, the Debe Public Library and the Carnegie Free Library for students.

Stories from the book “Indo Trinidadian Folk Tales in the Oral Tradition” by Ashram Maharaj and lessons from the life of Sieudass Sadu, demonstrating the sacrifice, resilience, and perseverance of our ancestors to overcome the hardships and obstacles associated with indentureship, were used to help students understand the richness and contribution of the Indians in Trinidad and Tobago.

NALIS is proud to be a part of the celebration of the coming of all our peoples!
