The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) looks forward to serving the nation’s school children at the start of the new school year. Although thousands of students visited the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago during the two-month vacation period, attended many of the special workshops, craft and storytelling sessions, and joined the chess club, we expect that even greater numbers would utilize the ultra-modern, state-of-the-art library facility from 02 September.

In July, NALIS held discussions with a number of stakeholders and has received commitments from many to assist in the instilling of discipline, the appreciation for property, and appropriate use of library and information facilities.

NALIS maintains its zero tolerance on indiscipline. We require that our rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the facilities are used for the purpose for which they have been intended. Any behaviour which is deemed to be in violation of rules and policies, will result in suspension of a user’s membership and/or prosecution by law.

We at NALIS have taken steps to assist our young users:
Group Orientation sessions on the use of the library facilities:
Young Adult library: Every Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30p.m.
Children’s Library: Every Wednesday and Friday at 3:30p.m. and every first Saturday in the month at 10:00 a.m.

Orientation sessions on the use of the Internet:
Young Adult Library: Every Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Additional lockers for bags storage will soon to be put in place.

Additional security to maintain rules so that everyone can enjoy the facilities.

Apart from the automated filtering system, monitoring of computer usage by specially assigned persons.

Computer Reservation System
Users will now have to reserve time for Internet access at the circulation desks. Access will be allowed on a first-come, first-served basis.

NALIS feels confident that the measures will result in improved levels of service for all users.
