The National Library and Information System Authority on Friday 15 September, launched a new volume of poetry by Heritage Librarian, Pearl Eintou Springer, at the Heritage Library on Knox and Pembroke Streets.

The book, “Moving Into the Light” is published by Ian Randel Publishing Company and was first launched on August 16, at Carifesta VII in St. Kitts.

In delivering the welcome, Pamella Benson, Executive Director, Nalis used this opportunity to talk about Nalis as an organization. She also urged the writers, artiste and corporate bodies present to reflect on their abilities that enable their creativity and to forge close partnerships with Nalis in an effort to promote literacy, and to foster and preserve the reading habit in Trinidad and Tobago. The Executive Director said, “Please use your skills for our “Leaders are Readers’ series; and make yourselves available for programmes which stimulate young people to excellence.

Apart from inviting persons to become friends of the library; seventeen (17) spread throughout Trinidad and three (3) Tobago, Benson invited their original manuscripts, first editions, research papers, musical scores, and photographs to the Heritage Library. “We need that spirit of nationalism in our authors, composers and artists, in all our citizens to endow and enrich our national collections,” solicited Benson.

The highlight of the evening was the author herself doing readings from her compilation collection of poetry, very emotively, accompanied by Ewart Serrant, Andre Tanker, Mavis John, Chantal Esdelle and Louis McWilliams. The Feature Speaker for the evening was Rawle Gibbons, Director of the Festival Centre for the Creative Arts, University of the West Indies.

The book, Moving Into the Light is available at all the Public Libraries across the country.
