NALIS Announces Temporary Disruption in Access to Online Resources
September 23, 2025The National Library and Information System Authority’s (NALIS) Latin Nights has now become a staple in the Authority’s annual calendar. This year, NALIS will host its fifth edition of the Latin-Ibero American festival from October 1 to 13, 2025 at the National Library, Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.
This event serves to raise awareness regarding Latin-Ibero American culture, folklore, art, history, literature, films and cuisine, as well as bridge linguistic and cultural divides, and create a greater understanding among communities.
Eleven countries will participate in the 2025 edition. They are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Spain and Venezuela. The formal opening will take place on Wednesday October 1 at 5:30 pm. After the formalities, the Embassy of Venezuela will present a selection of traditional Venezuelan dances, performed by students of the Bishop Anstey High School as well as musical performances by ‘La Rondalla del IVCC’, featuring students from the Cuatro Workshop of the Venezuelan Institute and a monologue by the Embassy’s own Secondary Secretary.
The other ten nights promise to be equally educational and entertaining as the embassies of Mexico, Panama, Cuba, Chile, Brazil and Dominican Republic will showcase films about various aspects of their countries and the embassies of Argentina, Spain and Colombia will present cultural performances. Two embassies will launch photographic exhibitions. They are Cuba and Peru. Cuba’s exhibition will mark the one hundredth year since the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz and Peru’s exhibition titled Candelaria, will provide an insight into the major cultural event celebrated in that country.
Latin Nights was first staged in 2017 and has garnered significant interest from Latin-Ibero American countries and the public alike. In addition to the cultural showcases, with books donated by the aforementioned embassies, NALIS has established a Spanish Language Book Collection at its Port of Spain Adult Library with the expressed goal to increase an interest in the speaking of Spanish as a first foreign language, and facilitate the cultural development of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
