His Excellency, Mr Luis Herandez, Ambassador for the Embassy of Peru to Trinidad and Tobago has for the second time in two months donated collections of Peruvian books to the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS).

The collection donated on August 15 consists of 18 volumes written by Peruvian historian, Jorge Basadre Grohmann. The books, divided into a period of eight intervals, cover the history of Peru from 1822, after the Declaration of Independence, until 1933, after the fall of the ‘Oncenio’ (Government of Augusto B. Leguía). The volume is considered one of the main works of Peruvian historiography in the twentieth century. It has been constantly edited from 1939, when it consisted of only a single volume, up to the ninth edition.

On June 27 His Excellency handed over a special gift of Volumes I - III of the Inca Gracilaso de la Vega, Obras Completas. These books also document the history of Peru. Inca Gracilaso de la Vega was the son of a Spanish father and Inca mother.

Catherine Romain, NALIS’ Executive Director who received the books on behalf of NALIS said that the Spanish language books will be made available to the public.
