The National Library and Information System Authority’s (NALIS) Barataria Community Library has received a donation of nine brand-new books from Kimberly Ali, Youth Ambassador with the World Literacy Foundation.
The official handover of the books took place on July 15, 2026 at the Port of Spain Children's Library. Delise Thomas, Librarian IV, North Region, received the books on behalf of NALIS. Thomas said, “These additions to the Barataria Community Library's collection will help to inspire young readers and open the doors to new worlds of adventure, imagination and learning.”
Among the titles donated are: It’s Wednesday What Could Go Wrong! by Emily Nagir, a book set in Trinidad, along with Little Red Riding Hood - Ladybird Tales; Frankenstein and Robinson Crusoe, both by Classic Starts; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl; Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator - Roald Dahl; Magic Treehouse: #10 Ghost Town at Sundown - Mary Pope Osborne; Caribbean Legends: Ryan's Encounter - Clarine Stewart, and Lost in the Trini Jungle 1942 - Sherelle Stafford.
At the presentation, Ali, who as accompanied by her mother Cindy Ramsingh, shared her intention to donate books to other libraries in the future in order to promote easy access to reading materials. Cherylann Quamina Baptiste, Director Public Libraries Division (Ag), thanked the youth ambassador for her donation and talked about the importance of reading and fostering a love for books from an early age. While at the library, the mother and daughter duo also took the opportunity to register for their very own NALIS library cards.
