The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) and The Cropper Foundation will be hosting an event to appreciate the Biodiversity of the Northern Range, on Wednesday 20 September 2006 from 10:00am at the National Library, Hart and Abercromby Streets, Port of Spain. Members of the public are invited to attend.

This event is designed to:

• Raise awareness of the importance of the plants, animals and habitats (collectively known as biodiversity) of the Northern Range to the people of Trinidad and Tobago;
• Highlight how our actions are affecting Northern Range biodiversity;
• Outline the consequences of changes in biodiversity for our well-being, especially in the future;
• Discuss what actions are being taken to conserve Northern Range biodiversity;
• Examine what further actions are needed to help manage the biodiversity of the Northern Range more sustainably.

The information presented at this event will be drawn from a recently concluded Assessment of the Northern Range - a three-year project undertaken by The Cropper Foundation, in collaboration with The University of the West Indies, the Environmental Management Authority (EMA), The Tropical ReLeaf Foundation and The Trust for Sustainable Livelihoods. The Report of the Northern Range Assessment is published as the EMA’s State of the Environment Report 2004.

Participants will also have an opportunity, both before and after the programme, to view the electronic photograph collection on the Northern Range, that is available at NALIS through the kind contribution of Dr. Julian Kenny.
