Tuesday 6 February – Port of Spain, Trinidad: Digicel, the fastest growing mobile operator in Trinidad & Tobago, today announced the line-up for the finale of the ‘Digicel Lyrics and Song’ taking place at the amphitheatre of the National Library this Thursday, 8 February. Soca Artistes Alison Hinds and 3 Canal will host the fourth and final show in the current series of the ‘Digicel Lyrics and Song’ this Thursday for visiting children from schools around Trinidad. This four-week series of the Digicel Lyrics and Song has been hosted in collaboration with 94.1FM and NALIS.

Soca artistes such as Kes, Nadia Batson, Jadee, Destra, Young Marcel and Maximus Dan have all hosted a morning of talk and music with young Soca fans. Each artiste has talked to the children about social issues close to their hearts such as: the benefits of staying in school, HIV and Aids, exercising caution when out at night and the ill effects of alcohol abuse.

Last week, Maxiums Dan was the guest of honour. He spoke to the boys and girls of the x and x about the importance of family and staying on the right track. He captivated the audience with his candid stories of his past experiences and what led him down the road of music and his eventual success as a Soca artiste.

Destra Garcia, who hosted the second show in the series received a rapturous welcome from the school children. Destra spoke of the importance of staying in school, getting a sound education and most importantly, for young girls to respect themselves.

Destra said of the event, “I’m delighted to be involved in the Digicel Lyrics and Song and to have this opportunity to talk about my experiences growing up and being in a position to advise young students about the importance of staying in school and respecting yourself.”

Marita Laurent, Digicel Sponsorship Manager said of the series, “For Digicel, having the opportunity to give something back to students by offering them the chance to meet the Soca artistes they respect and admire, while also learning about important social issues is extremely important. Young people face many challenges as they grow up and by having someone important to them reach out and talk about their past experiences, it could help them on their road to adulthood.”
