Iron gall ink remained a very popular ink until the early 20th century. Such documents, letters, manuscripts, ledgers, maps and artwork can be found in many library and archival collections around the world. However, the damaging effects of iron gall ink corrosion poses a major challenge for preserving these documents.

In this webinar Susan Peckham, Senior Paper Conservator, The Library of Congress, provides tips and techniques for the care, handling and storing of iron gall ink documents.











Write That Disaster Plan! – Wednesday June 22nd, 2022 at 1:00 PM T&T (AST)

June 1st is the  official start of the Atlantic Hurricane season. The 2021 hurricane season was the third most active on record. A disaster plan can help heritage institutions effectively respond to the threat of a hurricane.

Preservation and Conservation Laboratory staff will give tips for preparing a disaster plan for library and archival collections.
