The Caribbean Multilingual Dictionary of Flora, Fauna and Foods, compiled by the author, Jeannette Allsopp, and published by Arawak Publications of Jamaica in March 2003 was presented to Pemella Benson, executive director NALIS recently at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. This first volume of a thematic Caribbean Multilingual Dictionary (CMD) is written in Caribbean English, French, French Creole and Spanish.
NALIS is pleased to be the recipient of Jeannette Allsopp’s work. It is the very first of its kind in the entire Caribbean and is intended to facilitate communication across the existing languages barriers of the Caribbean with a view to promoting full Caribbean integration towards which the region is moving, particularly in relation to trade blocs including the Free Trade Area of the Americas, to come on stream sometime towards the end of the present decade.
Jeannette Allsopp, is a multilingual lexicographer, foreign language lecturer, linguistic and cultural researcher and teacher trainer who is also the Director of the Caribbean Multilingual Lexicography Project.
