NALIS RECEIVES MEMORABILIA, LITERATURE FROM MASONIC LODGE

The Official Handing Over Ceremony of memorabilia and a large quantity of Masonic literature from the Continuing Masonic Education (CME) of the Masonic Lodge to the Heritage Library of NALIS will take place on Friday 06, 2004, 1st Floor Seminar Room, National Library, starting at 10:00 a.m. The Feature Address will be delivered by Professor Brinsley Samaroo. Other speakers will include the Minister of Community Development and Culture, the Honourable Joan Yuille Williams, the President of the CME, Jack Harewood, and Pamella Benson, Executive Director, NALIS.

The items presented to NALIS represent the history of the arrival of the Free Masonary in Trinidad and Tobago dating as far back as 1795 and will be made available to researchers.

An exhibition of the Masonic Lodge will be mounted at the 2nd floor, Heritage Library, and will showcase significant Masons, regalia pertaining to the Masons, and some of the books from their collection. It will also include two reproductions of Cazabon: The Freemasons’ Lodge, located at Piccadilly Street in 1815, the Freemason from the early period and a letter signed by George Washington. This is the first time that this material is being displayed publicly.
