The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) will receive the collections of James O’Neil Lewis, Wilfred Cartey and Colin Laird at the official handing over function at the Audio Visual Room, National Library on Wednesday 22 September 2004, 10:00 a.m. These collections will be lodged at the Heritage Library for public use.
Lewis is a graduate of Oxford University, England. He is a former Ambassador, government minister and adviser to Eric Williams, first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. Doctor Wilfred Cartey (1931-1992) was a scholar and lecturer in African Literature. Colin Laird who is a well-known architecture and recipient of a number National and International Prizes for his work, hands over maps of historic significance and interest.
Feature speakers at the Official Handing Over Ceremony will be Professor Bridget Brereton, Historian and Chair of the NALIS Board; Dodderidge Alleyne will speak of the contribution that James O’Neil Lewis made to the development of Trinidad and Tobago; and Rosann Walker, former President of NDATT will speak to the life and work of Professor Cartey and read his poems.
