NATIONAL LIBRARY OF CUBA DONATES BOOKS TO NALIS

Her Excellency, Tania Diego Olite, Ambassador of Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago presented a collection of nine Cuban books to the National Library and Information System Authority’s (Nalis) executive director, Paula Greene, at the National Library in Port of Spain on August 15.

The collection, donated by the National Library of Cuba José Martí, consists of books by Cuban poets, Nicolás Cristobal Gillién Batisha and Cintio Vitier; a children’s book titled Afro-Cuban Legends by Natalia Bolívar, along with books by Cuban photographer, Rafael Acosta de Arriba, and researcher and writer, Araceli García Carranza.

At the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nalis and the National Library of Cuba José Martí on July 5, the ambassador had expressed her national library’s intention to share materials of some of her country’s seminal poets and writers with NALIS. The donated books will be added to Nalis’ Spanish Language Collection, which is housed at the Port of Spain Adult Library, National Library of Trinidad and Tobago.

The signing of the MoU established collaboration between the two entities in the areas of training, preservation and conservation, the exchange of information and materials regarding cultural heritage and the sharing of specialised knowledge and expertise in the use of library technology.
