The National Library and Information System Authority’s (NALIS) Chaguanas Public Library in collaboration with Rennie’s Orphanage and Animal Rescue (Roar) celebrated World Wildlife Day 2023 with a three day educational programme from March 01 to March 03, 2023 at the library’s Ramsaran Street location.
World Wildlife Day is commemorated on March 03 annually, to celebrate and bring awareness of wild fauna and flora and their contributions. This year’s theme was Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation.
The sessions were facilitated by representatives from Roar and included displays and lectures on animals endemic to Trinidad and Tobago, their habits and contribution to the eco-system. Animals present included common opossum, red-rumped agouti, blue and gold macaw, tropical screech owl, yellow footed tortoise, just to name a few. Roar, founded in 2014, is a wildlife rescue center that rehabilitates and rescues wild animals in Trinidad and Tobago.
Wildlife book displays were mounted at other public libraries and virtual displays/presentations shown via libraries’ social media platforms.
Persons are invited to visit NALIS’ website and libraries’ Facebook pages at www.nalis.gov.tt or www.nalis.gov.tt/NALIS-Libraries-Facebook to be updated on programmes and activities.
