NALIS INTRODUCES NEW SOFTWARE FOR EASIER ACCESS TO E-CONTENT

The National Library and Information System Authority (Nalis) has acquired the new authentication software, OpenAthens, to provide its registered users with easier access to its thousands of free e-publications and other online resources.

According to Debbie Goodman, manager corporate communications, Nalis, “The new software facilitates simple, safe and easy access to individual user accounts as they navigate their desired database and it gives users on site and remote access to Nalis’ licensed online resources via single sign-on (SSO) technology.”  Although OpenAthens describes its software as “a gateway to accessing publisher’s content,” the software does not include any content of its own.

One of NALIS’ online databases which can be accessed through OpenAthens is Flipster which houses digital magazines such as, Entrepreneur, Better Homes and Gardens, Essence and PC World. Users can also access databases such as OverDrive to access eBooks and audio books, and EbscoHOST for journals and articles.

Registered NALIS users attempting to use to the new system will have to register  at www.nalis.gov.tt/Services/OpenAthens-Registration, using the registration number and pin from their library card to complete the process.  More information about how to register can be found on Nalis’ Facebook and Instagram pages.
