The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPost) launched “I Read to Succeed” vacation reading and writing project for children between the ages 10 – 12 years on Friday 8 August, 2003 at the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago.
The “I Read to Succeed” competition is geared to foster the reading habit as well as encourage the writing of book reports. Entrants are expected to read a library book, or as many library books as possible, and mail the book report for each book read to the TTPost Mail Centre, Piarco. Guidelines have been provided for the writing of the book reports.
Entry forms can be collected at the Children’s Library, National Library of Trinidad and Tobago and all other NALIS public libraries. The competition will run until September 08, 2003. Prizes include books, Nintendo sets, Scrabble sets, a CD player, and the Grand Prize of a Road Style Mountain Cross BMX Bicycle. Prizes are sponsored by NALIS, Toymart and Courts (Trinidad) Limited.
This project is in keeping with NALIS’ and TTPost’s commitment to working with the youth and ensuring that they succeed academically. This project will provide children with the opportunity to develop educationally, as well as make use of their libraries during the vacation period.
