National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) has a new addition to its board. Dr Rita Pemberton, a former Senior Lecturer in the Department of History at the University of the West Indies, was given her instrument of appointment earlier this morning by the Minister of Communications, Senator the Honourable Donna Cox.
The Ministry of Communications has responsibility for NALIS.
Dr Pemberton brings to the Board her depth of experience in education at both the secondary and tertiary levels. Before retiring, she held several positions at the UWI and won multiple awards inclusive of the Queen’s Jubilee Research Scholar Award in 2013. She was a former member of the Board of TTT and Head of the Department and Member of the Management Committee at Arima Comprehensive School.
Dr. Pemberton replaces Mrs. Lynette Tyson Noel who resigned from the Board of NALIS, effective December 31, 2019. She joins the Chairman of the Board of NALIS, Neil Parsanlal and seven other Board Members. Dr Pemberton’s area of focus on NALIS’ board will be education. Other NALIS Board members are Deputy Chairman - Charleen Phillip, Elmelinda Lara, Cathyan Townsend, Jefferson Guy, Karel Douglas and Pandita Dr. Indrani Rampersad, all Directors. Acting Executive Director, Paula Greene sits on the Board as an Ex-Officio Member.
