In one of his final duties before retirement, Ambassador of Peru in Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Luis Hernandez presented seven volumes of books about Peru to NALIS on December 10, 2019.
The books, collectively titled: Compendio Historico Del Peru (Historical Compendium of Peru) provide insights into the history of Peru. The topics covered per volume are: Volume I: Archaeological History; Volume II: Discovery, Conquest and Viceroyalty; Volume: III: Viceroyalty, (XVII Century); Volume IV: Viceroyalty, (XVIII Century); Volume V: Independence and the Republic (C. XIX); Volume VI: The Republic (Century XX); Volume VII: Political and Economic History (1820 – 1998).
These Spanish language books will be added to the NALIS Spanish Language Collection at the Adult Library, First Floor, National Library Building, Port of Spain. Hernandez said that the books will serve as a source of information for the Spanish-speaking community and he hopes that they will contribute to the enrichment of the Spanish language in Trinidad and Tobago.
Paula Greene, NALIS’ Executive Director (Ag.) who received the books on behalf of NALIS wished Ambassador Hernandez all the best on his retirement. She also expressed great gratitude to His Excellency for the collection and his embassy’s involvement in the ongoing Club de Español - the Spanish conversation club, established at the National Library in 2017, and for his country’s participation in NALIS’ Latin Nights project which presents Latin American culture and arts to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
