Patrons at the Rio Claro Public Library welcome the brand new television and DVD player donated to the library by Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharath, Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Fisheries on Friday July 22, 2016.
Elizabeth Mahadeo, Nalis’ executive director accepted the television and DVD player from minister Rambharath. Also in attendance were Hazel Hazzard-Samuda, Nalis’ director Public Libraries Division (Ag.) and Claudia Jankee, Librarian I at the Rio Claro Public Library.
The faces of the children attending the library’s vacation camp shone with joyful glee when the television was turned on and they were able to view one of their favourite recreational movies, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Most of them had read several books in the series and this was an opportunity to compare the printed material and movie. The television will also be used to show documentaries and films to young adults and adults. Some DVDs in the library’s collection include National Geographic and Natural Wonders of the Caribbean.
Since the opening of the Rio Claro Public Library on December 1, 2015, library staff has been using one of the library’s computers, when not in use, to show movies and documentaries. They say that the donated television and DVD player is certainly a step up and in keeping with the camp’s theme, “Make a Difference”, the minister certainly has made a difference.
