NALIS LAUNCHES COMMENCEMENT OF RESTORATION AND REHABILITATION OF THE TRINIDAD PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR PRESIDENTIAL & PRIME MINISTERIAL COLLECTIONS

The Board of Directors of the National Library and Information System Authority hosted its official function to mark the commencement of its Restoration, Rehabilitation and Adaptive Reuse of the Trinidad Public Library (Knox Street, Port of Spain) was held on August 2, 2013.

The restored building will house the Presidential and Prime Ministerial collections which will include photographs and other audiovisual memorabilia; documents relating to speeches and government business; information on first ladies and other general artefacts and detailed records of the life and activities of the former presidents and prime ministers of Trinidad and Tobago. This collection will be a rich resource for the nation's students, researchers, the general public as well as international visitors. The memorabilia of each successive President and Prime Minister will be added.

The structure will undergo extensive restoration and rehabilitative works under the guidance of Historical Architects De Four Farmer and Associates Limited and is expected to be completed in 2015. Their services will be managed by MTS, and NALIS’ Project Management Unit. The Historical Restoration Unit Ministry of Works and Infrastructure will provide technical advice.
