NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: OCT 27 – NOV 1, 2013 LIBRARIES AT THE CENTRE OF LEARNING, COMMUNITY AND LIFE

We are pleased to advise that National Library Week 2013 will be celebrated from October 27 – November 1. This year’s theme is: Libraries at the Centre of Learning, Community and Life. The Celebrity Tale-A-Thon, NALIS’ grand storytelling event which commences the week-long celebration, took place on Sunday 27 October at the Amphitheatre, National Library Building from 2:00 p.m.

Special features this year included, Kess the Illusionist; “Zoo To You” hosted by the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago Inc.; JJ and Friends; face painting; craft; and your favourite characters, Elmo, Sponge Bob, Minnie Mouse and Tinkerbell. Young adults enjoyed games, and persons 60 years and over, BINGO! Participants enjoyed an afternoon of fun, entertainment and great stories.

Libraries throughout our network will host a number of programmes during the week. Some of the programmes listed are: “Cyber Safety”, “Science Corner”, “Family Heirloom Clinic”, “Jewelry Making”, “Round d Library Tour”, discussions, creative writing workshops, authors’ visits and Divali celebrations. National Library Week is hosted annually to:

  • Increase awareness and support for libraries by increasing their visibility in a positive context;
  • Communicate why libraries are both unique and valuable;
  • Promote the positive image of all library staff

Amnesty

Starting on October 28, NALIS will offer an amnesty on overdue books and DVDs. The Amnesty does not apply to damaged or lost items. This promotion will end on November 30.
