Examine, Explore, Discover @ the Library is the theme of the 2001 National Library Week celebrations hosted by the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) from May 14 – 20, 2001. The official launch of the week’s activities will take place on Monday 14, at the Port of Spain Public Library at 10am. The Minister of Human Development, Youth and Culture, the Honourable Ganga Singh will deliver the feature address at the launch.

The purpose of the week is foster the good reading habit amongst the populace as well as bring into focus the library services offered by NALIS, which include free Internet access, lending, reading, book mobile and reference, just to name a few.

The occasion will also mark the launch of Nalis’ Baby Collection. At present, the minimum age for becoming a registered member of the library is six (6) years. The launch of the Baby Collection will see infants becoming registered users of the library services, with a book collection specifically geared to their age group.

All branches throughout Trinidad and Tobago as well as school libraries will put on a number of activities during the week for its clients. Some of the activities will include storytelling, lectures/demonstrations, readings by authors and visits by members of Parliament for the areas.

On May 17, the Chaguanas Community Library will be officially handed over to the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS). See press for details the schedule of activities. The week’s activities will culminate with a staff sport and family day on Sunday 20 May.
