“WOMEN IN CALYPSO” EXHIBITION AT NATIONAL LIBRARY

The media is invited to attend the launch and viewing of the exhibition, “Women in Calypso and Concert Series”, featuring past and present female Calypso icons, at the National Library, Hart and Abercromby Streets, Port of Spain at 5:00 p.m. today, Wednesday 28 January, 2009. The launch will feature performances by female calypsonians and an address by author and Calypso historian, Rudolph Ottley.

This “Women in Calypso” exhibition, presented by the Heritage Library Division, NALIS, recaptures and recalls some of the major contributions made by female calyposnians; it lists and presents, in pictorial form, the female pioneers and other categories of female calypsonians; and shows footage of female performances.

The exhibition serves as an education and information tool for students, teachers and Calypso and Carnival enthusiasts.
