NALIS LAUNCHES LEROY CLARKE’S “SECRET INSECT OF A BIRD DEEP IN ME, WANTING TO FLY" AT THE NATIONAL LIBRARY ON WEDNESDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2009 AT 6: 30 P.M.

The media is invited to attend the launch of LeRoy Clarke’s “Secret Insect of a Bird Deep In Me, Wanting To Fly.” This book, published by Clarke is a collection of 402 pages of drawings by the master artist himself.The book, which will be sold at the launch contains profound critiques and articles by Duff Wellington Mitchell, Edward Bowen, Michael Harris and Pat Bishop.

The launch will feature an address by Pat Bishop, readings by Muhammad Muwakil, Gemma Ledgerwood, Mervyn Taylor and Eintou Pearl Springer. Master pannist, Len Boogise Sharpe will pay tribute to LeRoy Clarke.

In addition to this launch, NALIS has mounted an exhibition which celebrates Le Roy Clarke’s contributions to the literary and artistic landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. Other books written by Clarke include: “Taste of Endless Fruit”, 1972; “Douens” 1976 and 1981; “Eying De Word – Love poems for Ettylene”, 2004; “De Distance is Here – The El Tucuche Poems" 1984 – 2007 and “Portfolios: Fragments of a Spiritual”, 1970.
