JANUARY 18 2007: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - Digicel, the fastest-growing mobile telecommunications operator in Trinidad & Tobago, has a message for young people this carnival season “be responsible, remain motivated and never lose sight of your goals.” To get the message across Digicel has teamed up with several high profile Soca Artistes, NALIS and 94.1FM to positively influence the youth.
The “Digicel Lyrics and Song”, geared towards secondary school students, was launched this morning at the Amphitheatre of the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, Abercromby Street, Port of Spain. The event will take place every Thursday for the next four weeks between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
The Amphitheatre was filled with students eager to hear from their favorite Soca Stars. The artistes who will be making guest appearances and speaking about social issues during the next four weeks include, Kes Difentalla, Nadia Batson, Destra Garcia, Alison Hinds and Maximus Dan. The students will also be treated to performances by the artistes, who all say they are overjoyed to be part of this venture.
The Community Police will be playing their part as they too will be speaking about social issues, especially those relevant to the Carnival Season and the entire event will be broadcast live on Boom 94.1FM.
Digicel Sponsorship and Promotions Manager, Marita Laurent, thanked the artistes for donating their time during the hectic Carnival Season. She says, “Digicel is honoured to be associated with such a patriotic, well-intentioned group of artistes.” The Community police also came in for some high praise from Laurent and were commended for the invaluable contribution they make to this country.
She added, “They will hear their soca icons’ stories and testimonials that will give them hope and encouragement. Digicel firmly believes in the importance of young people and the role they play in shaping a country’s future.”
Debbie Goodman, Public Relations and Marketing Officer, NALIS also commented on the event, “NALIS is delighted to be working with Digicel and 94.1FM in bringing this event to life and offering students an opportunity to meet their soca heroes and hear their words of advice.
