Renowned author, Dr. Michael Anthony will present the lecture on the topic Early Trinidad Carnival on Wednesday 14 February 2007 at the 1st Floor Seminar Room, National Library starting at 10:30 a.m. Anthony will cover issues pertaining to the life and times of the early Carnival. His lecture will include the Camboulay Riots and the change of Carnival from violence to a spectacle.
The lecture is a feature of NALIS’ Carnival 2007 celebrations. The Heritage Library Division will launch its exhibition bearing the same theme after the lecture.
About Michael Anthony
Dr. Michael Anthony was born at Mayaro in 1930. He went to England in 1954 and there he published his first book, The Games Were Coming. Shortly afterwards he published The Year in San Fernando, and Green Days by the River. He left England in 1968 to live in Brazil, and returned home to Trinidad in 1970.
Among his other books are: Towns and Villages of Trinidad and Tobago; Historical Dictionary of Trinidad and Tobago; All That Glitters and Butler Till the Final Bell.
