STORYTELLER/LIBRARIAN A HIT IN MIAMI

Joan Osborne, Director, Heritage Library Division captivated audiences in Miami during a NALIS/Miami-Dade Public Library System exchange programme entitled the Art of Story Telling, recently. Apart from dramatizing stories at the Family Day Festival, this storyteller/librarian conducted workshops on the ‘Evolution of the National Library, its History and Services’, ‘The Role of Storytelling and Developing the Reading Habit’ and ‘How Parents Could Use Storytelling To Nurture The Reading Habit In Their Children.’

Osborne, known in the storytelling arena as Aunty Queenie, traveled to Miami for the Annual Storytelling Festival and Professional Outreach Programme. This was the second part of an exchange programme which began in April with Jennifer Dewsnap, Manager – Social Sciences/Young Adult Services and Gia Aborgast, Branch Administrator both of Miami Dade Public Library hosting workshops in Trinidad. Other countries involved in the exchange with Miami –Dade were Bahamas, Jamaica Haiti and Puerto Rico.
