Recently the winners of the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) competition, held by the Tunapuna Public Library in collaboration with the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation were presented with their winning prizes of cash and vouchers.
The DEAR competition, which ran from October to December 2004, was open to adults living or working in the Tunapuna/Piarco region. The competition was geared to encourage the reading habit, with particular emphasis on reading for pleasure.
Winners were judged on the most books read, the most pages read, the most improved reader, the most enthusiastic reader, the widest selection of material read, the best written presentation and the best verbal presentation. Anthony Mitchell, Grounds Personnel of MTS was adjudged the winner having read 36 books during the competition period. He is an avid fan of westerns.
