NALIS OFFERS LENDING SERVICES ONLY DUE TO COVID-19

On Friday March 13, 2020, the Prime Minister, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley announced that effective tomorrow, all places of learning, inclusive of schools and universities will remain closed for one week, in the first instance.

In light of the Prime Minister’s announcement, NALIS has taken the decision to restrict its services to the lending of library materials only. All other services have been suspended for the period.

This means that from tomorrow and continuing for one week, persons can borrow and return books and DVDs at public libraries. However, reading, study spaces and computer services will remain inaccessible. Additionally, persons will not be allowed to congregate.

Please note that NALIS will also continue to provide free online resources for reference and research and e-books via: www.nalis.gov.tt. NALIS TAKES PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AGAINST COVID-19

As we at NALIS continue to provide walk-in library and information services, the following precautionary measures to protect our staff and patrons against COVID-19 have been taken:

  • Cleaning regimen has been stepped up;
  • Public interfacing programmes, especially those designed for seniors,mhave been suspended until the end of March 2020, in the first instance.

 

Persons are asked to also take their own precautionary measures. Restrict handshakes, hugging and close physical contact with persons who exhibit flu-like symptoms. Exercise standard hygiene practices: avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; cover your coughs and sneezes, wash your hands regularly with soap and water and use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.

If you have symptoms, such as a cough, fever, acute diarrhoea, shortness of breath or body pains, please seek immediate medical help and avoid public spaces and gatherings.

CHANGE IN LIBRARY HOURS FOR THE COUVA PUBLIC LIBRARY ON MARCH 11, 2020

The Couva Public Library, located at Grant Street Extension, Couva will open at 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm on Wednesday March 11, 2020.

NALIS apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the change in hours of operations.  This change has become necessary to carry out emergency maintenance works at the library.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE HERITAGE LIBRARY AND ST. HELENA PUBLIC LIBRARY

The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) advises of the temporary closures of the following libraries from Wednesday March 4, 2020.

 

THE HERITAGE LIBRARY

Heritage Library Services will be relocated to the 2nd Floor, National Library Building. As such, services currently being provided from the 1st Floor will temporarily cease to facilitate the move.

 

ST. HELENA PUBLIC LIBRARY

The temporary closure of the St. Helena Public Library is to facilitate upgrade works at the library’s location, Moephat Trace, St. Helena, Piarco. Patrons are reminded that they can borrow and return items (including DVDs) at any other NALIS Public Library.

Reopening dates of the aforementioned libraries will be announced subsequently.
