NALIS LIBRARIES TO REOPEN ON OCTOBER 14

We are pleased to announce that NALIS’ Heritage Library and Public Libraries will resume walk in services from October 14, 2020. Until further notice, opening and closing times are: Monday to Friday: 9:30 am to 5:00pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Public Library study rooms will remain closed at this time, however persons can come in to borrow materials and use the library’s computers.  Appointments will be required to gain access to the Heritage Library, National Library Building for research and reference purposes. Email asknalis@nalis.gov.tt or call 624-4466, 623-1130 or 625-5255 extension 2203 for appointments. 

NALIS’ amnesty on overdue books has been extended to October 31, 2020. Books and DvDs are to be returned by placing them in book return bins at public libraries.

Access is still available to ebooks and resources via the NALIS website at www.nalis.gov.tt and a host of programmes via each library’s Facebook page.

NALIS LIBRARIES REMAIN CLOSED, AMNESTY EXTENDED

NALIS’ Heritage and Public Libraries will remain closed in keeping with the Government’s restrictions in place until October 11, 2020 to limit the movement of persons.  An announcement regarding the exact date of reopening will be given subsequently.

NALIS’ amnesty on overdue books has been extended to October 31, 2020. The return of books and DVDs is being facilitated at the National Library, Port of Spain. Items are to be placed in the book return bins provided.

Patrons are invited to access ebooks and resources via the NALIS website at www.nalis.gov.tt and a host of programmes via their favourite library’s Facebook page.

TEMPORARY ISBN APPLICATION PROCESS

While borders are closed, the only available method of payment for ISBNs is via Wire Transfer. This will cost US$25.00 in addition to the regular fees and does not include the costs charged by your personal bank.

To Apply for ISBN via Wire Transfer

Send an email to Sonelle.Lewis-Archibald@nalis.gov.tt confirming your willingness to pay via Wire Transfer along with a completed, clearly scanned copy (JPEG or PDF) of your application form. Forms can be downloaded at https://www.nalis.gov.tt/Services/Business-Center/ISBN-Agency#tabposition_23814.

You will receive an email with Wire Transfer details and the exact amount you should pay.

Once funds have been confirmed by CARICOM, you will receive another email confirming your assigned ISBN or in the case of Block applications, you will receive a confirmation email with your next steps.

NALIS OFFERS ONLINE SERVICES TO LIMIT MOVEMENT OF PERSONS

In keeping with the Government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 by limiting the movement of persons, the National Library and Information System Authority will only deliver services via its social media platforms and website from September 1, 2020. Walk-in library and information services are expected to resume on September 22, 2020.

NALIS apologises for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of walk-in services, however this is necessary to protect our valued staff and library patrons. 

You are invited to visit the NALIS website at www.nalis.gov.tt and corporate library and Facebook pages for storytelling segments, workshops, book talks, authors’ discussions, school resources, research materials, eBooks and more. You can also email AskNALIS@nalis.gov.tt if you have a research question or query. 

NALIS looks forward to seeing you again when walk-in services resume and reminds everyone that its amnesty on overdue books and DVDs has been extended to September 30, 2020.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE COUVA PUBLIC LIBRARY

The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) wishes to advise the public of the temporary closure of the Couva Public Library on the afternoon of Wednesday August 26th to facilitate sanitisation of the premises. The library will re-open for regular business on Thursday August 27th.
