POLICY for Internet use by the Public
Access to the Internet is available
to adult and children users throughout the Public Library system in fulfillment
of our stated purpose to 'provide for information access and delivery to all
facets of society.'
To be able to use this facility,
a patron must show valid identification and complete a form, which would help
us to monitor the use of this service for future development.
Guidelines
- Use of the Internet is on a first-come first-served basis and
is limited to half an hour per session. Staff may use their discretion based
on the demand for use at the time and may allow longer periods of use if these
computers are free.
- There is no filtering or censorship of the system. NALIS cannot
be held responsible for any inappropriate or offensive information displayed.
- The Library Services cannot guarantee that information found through
the Internet is accurate, authoritative or factual.
- Our staff has been trained to evaluate Internet sources and can
assist you to find accurate sources of information efficiently.
- NALIS assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect,
arising from its connections to the Internet.
- Files may be downloaded to diskettes purchased at the Service
Point
- Printing from the Internet is available to the Public at charges
to be determined periodically.
- The display of pornographic material is prohibited.
Child safety
on the Internet
While the Library staff will
monitor the display on the screens in the children's library, parents or
guardians are responsible for the Internet information selected and/or accessed
by their children.
Parents are encouraged to discuss
the use of the Internet in relation to family values and boundaries and to monitor
their children's use of the Internet.
