Ronnie St. Andre started his dance career with the Arawak Dance Company. In response to numerous requests for tutors in the Best Village Programme, he was sent to the rural village of Morne Diablo in 1974. He choreographed for the Morne Diablo Folk Performing Company until 1988. As a result of his work in the company, he was awarded the prize for Best Choreographer on many occasions. He also represented Trinidad and Tobago at various international festivals, including the Bicentennial Celebrations in Washington DC in 1976. Ronnie brought the level of Folk Dance to new heights during the seventies and the eighties, and his standards influenced the future developments of dance in the Best Village Programme. His style of choreography is still evident in work presently produced by the groups. Ronnie St. Andre was awarded a Government Scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance in New York, which he successfully completed. He was furthering his studies when he died in 1988. |
