Giselle Jeanne Marie La Ronde was born on November 6, 1963 in Port-Of-Spain Trinidad, at the age of 10 her family moved to San Fernando. She has 1 sister and two brothers. She attended St Peter's School, Point-a-Pierre and St Francis Girls School.

In 1986 at age 23 she went on to win the Miss World competition at the Albert Hall, London, England. She was the first Trinidadian to capture the coveted title and the fourth from the Caribbean region. She was presented with the Chaconia Medal in Trinidad and Tobago and has had a BWIA airplane named in her honor.

After the pageant Giselle used her prize money (£30,000 ) to attend University and complete a double degree (Sociology and Communications) at the University of London. She practices Shotokan Karate in her spare time.

In 1993 Giselle married Heathcliff West. They have one son, Kyle. She presently works at the House of Angostora.
