Born in Syria on April 3, 1923 Anthony Norman Sabga came to Trinidad at the age of 7. He attended the Nelson Street Boys R.C. School. He quit school in 1936 at age 13 in order to take over the family business due to his father's illness. At age 22 he married Minerva, a distant cousin. This union produced six children Norman, David, Andrew, Linda, JoAnn and Donna-Marie. In 1945 he formed the firm Standard Distributors and in 1959 he started a retail appliance business in Barbados. He formed Standard Distributors (Equipment) Ltd. And the holding company Anthony N. Sabga Ltd in 1964. The ANSA McAL grouping was formed in 1992, it comprises 52 companies with interests in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, St. Kitts and USA. He is regarded by many as "The Don" of the Syrian community in Trinidad and Tobago and is also called "The Prince". He is known to be a perfectionist.
