Andrew Worrell has been a prominent figure in the post independence movement to forge an indigenous cultural identity. His first interest was in sports. He excelled in cricket and football and has the distinction of representing Trinidad and Tobago in Guyana in 1941.

Mr. Worrell shifted his interest to folk culture with the emergence of the "Prime Minister's Best Village Trophy Competition" in the 1960's. He assisted in the formation of La Pastora Folk Performers and has been the prime mover in the cultural development of many communities in St. Patrick East. He has been a performer and promoter of Carnival competitions serving the Siparia Welfare Council for the past 15 years. He still resides in Siparia where he has nurtured his children to follow in his footsteps in the cultural arena.
