1989 marked his introduction
to the Trinidadian public with his Stag Lager Beer song "Zindabad Trinbago"
which was recorded on his first album "Victory", but at the age
of ten he was the leader of the Waterloo Hindu School choir, which won the
Divali singing competition from Lakshmi Girls.
His specialty is mixing soca with classical and calypso. He has toured extensively in North America, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica and England, Canada and the United States. He has formally studied music theory with local musicians Bansraj Ramkissoon, Mungal Patessar, Pradip Shankar, Sunil Verma and Kavita Verma for India and was taught the harmonium by Rakesh Yankarran and can play the dholak, tabla or sitar. |
