Senator
Lindsay Gillette was sworn in as Minister
of Energy and Energy Industries on December 22, 2000.
He is responsible for matters relating to the Energy sector and Energy
industries. These would also include
Energy Planning and Research, Hydrocarbons, Natural Resources, Quarries and
Mines, Electricity and Electrical Inspectorate. He is also responsible for the National Gas Company of Trinidad
and Tobago Limited, National Quarries Company Limited, PETROTRIN, NP, NGC
Trinidad and Tobago Limited, LNG Ltd, TRINMAR Limited and TRINTOC Services
Limited.
Mr. Gillette was born on September 7, 1959. He possesses a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering and Structures from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He was attached to the Ministry of Works as a Civil Engineer for the period 1982-1985 and was the Managing Director of Computers and Controls from 1985 to 1994. He then became Chairman of the Gillette Group of Companies. Mr. Gillette has also been Director of Demerara Life Insurance Company, Mega Insurance Company and Flavorite Foods Limited and served as a Board Member of National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Training (NIHERST) and the National Maintenance and Security Company (MTS).
Mr. Gillette served previously as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister from October 21, 1999 until his appointment as Minister of Energy and Energy Industries.
Mr. Gillette is married, has seven children and lists his interests as golf, swimming and martial arts.
