Senator
Jearlean John was sworn in as Minister
of Transport on January 8, 2001. In
this capacity, Miss John is responsible for the Ministry of Transport, Motor
Vehicle Registration and Control, Traffic Management, Public Transport, Shipping,
Harbours and Safety in Coastal Waters, Monorails, Civil Aviation and Air Services
Agreements. In addition, Miss John
is responsible for a number of Statutory Boards and Bodies which include the
Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, Port Authority of Trinidad and
Tobago and Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC).
Miss John was born on April 10, 1960 in Charlotteville, Tobago. She obtained her MBA at Heriot-Watt University, the National University of Singapore and specialized in General Management Training.
Miss John is single and has one daughter. She enjoys reading and jogging.
Senator Jearlean John was also assigned the responsibility of Minister of Tourism and Tobago Affairs on June 27, 2001. In this capacity she is responsible for Tourism, Hotel Development and Tobago Affairs. She also oversees the functioning of Tourism and Industrial Developemnt Co. Ltd. (TIDCO) and Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
