Senator Gerald Yetming was sworn in as Minister of Finance on December 22, 2000.  Mr. Yetming has responsibility for all financial matters including Banking (Central and Commercial), Borrowing, Loans, Budgeting/Budgetary Control, International Financing, Investments, Inland Revenue, Treasury, Economic Management, Fiscal and Monetary Policy.  Additionally, he is responsible for Customs and Excise, Insurance, National Insurance, the National Health Insurance System, Pensions and Gratuities, Post Office Savings Bank, Tenders and Contracts and Valuation.

 

            Mr. Yetming is also responsible for a number of Statutory Boards and Business Enterprises.

 

            Mr. Yetming was born on January 4, 1945.  He attended St Mary's College.  In 1964 he joined the Royal Bank of Canada (now Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd).  He became Executive Director - International Business Group in 1992 and Executive Director - Retain Group in 1995.  In 1997 he became Executive Director - Overseas Banking and Corporate Resources.  In the year 2000 he was promoted to Group Director - Regional Banking RBTT Financial Holdings Ltd.  He also held Board positions on a number of Companies.

 

            Mr. Yetming has been a foundation member of the Organisation for National Reconstruction (ONR), and in the General Elections in 2000 was chairman of the National Campaign Committee.

 

            Mr. Yetming served as High Commissioner to Canada for Trinidad and Tobago for the period 1987 to 1989.  He was Deputy Chairman of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex Authority and was a member of the National Information Systems Advisory Group.

 

            Mr. Yetming is married and has two sons.
