Senator
Dr. Roodal Moonilal was sworn in as Minister
in the Ministry of Labour, Manpower Development and Industrial Relations on
March 5, 2001. In this capacity, Dr
Moonilal assists the Minister of Labour, Manpower Development and Industrial
Relations in the performance of his duties.
Dr. Moonilal was born on December 2, 1966. He possesses a BSc. Degree (Hons.) in Government from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, a Masters of Arts Degree in Labour and Development (Scholarship) from the Hague, the Netherlands and Ph. D. in Development Studies, on Fellowship from the Government of the Netherlands Institute of Social Studies, the Hague. He specialized in Industrialisation, Labour Relations and Urban Employment and his thesis received the first Cum laude distinction in the history of the Ph. D. program at the Institute of Social Studies.
Dr Moonilal was a part-time tutor in Politics at UWI (1988-91, 1993-94, 1996), worked as Head of the Department of Education, Research and Training, All Trinidad Sugar and General Workers Trade Union (1989-91, 1993-95) and was a Teaching and Research Assistant (TRA) Institute of Social Studies, The Hague (1995, 1997-98). He was also Advisor to ATS/GWTU (1999), served as Industrial Relations Consultant/Advisor to the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA), Port of Spain (1999-2000), lectured part-time at UWI, St Augustine (1999-2000) and was Lecturer, Institute of Social Studies; Holland (May-June 2000). In 1999, he was Director, Policy Monitoring Unit, Office of the Prime Minister. He also acted as Government Senator on several occasions.
Dr. Moonilal is unmarried and
had been engaged in a number of activities which include President of the
Indian Cultural Society, at San Fernando Government Secondary, President of
the Society for the Promotion of Indian Culture, UWI, St Augustine and Vice-President,
Guild of Undergraduates, UWI, St Augustine.
