Mr.
Sadiq Baksh was
sworn in as Minister of Housing and Settlements
on December 22, 2000. He has the responsibility of Housing, Hydrographic
Surveys, Lands and Surveys, Land Settlement, Regularization of Tenure.
Additionally Mr. Baksh is responsible for the National Housing Authority,
Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Committee, Advisory Town Planning Panel and
the Land Settlement Agency.
Mr
Baksh was born on October 23, 1950 in Siparia.
He attended the San Fernando Technical Institute where he obtained
a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering and a Higher National Certificate
in Mechanical Engineering. He also
studied Production Management at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
Between
1966 and 1984, Mr Baksh worked as a Factory Engineer at ANSA Industries Ltd
and as a Mechanical Engineer and Production Manager at Caribbean Packaging
Industries Ltd. In 1984 he took up
the position of Managing Director of Nutrifood Ltd and Bakshplas Industries
Ltd.
Mr
Baksh has been a member of the Rotary Club of San Juan since 1988 and was
Financial Director, Langmore Health Foundation from 1986 to 1995. He has also served as Regional Director, Foundation
for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL).
He
served formerly as Minister of Works and Transport from 1995 to 2000, and
is the parliamentary representative for the San Fernando West constituency.
Mr
Baksh is married and is the father of three.
He enjoys swimming and cricket.
