Mr
Ralph Maraj was
sworn in as Minister of Communications
and Information Technology on December 22, 2000.
In this capacity Mr. Maraj has responsibility for Archives, Freedom
of Information Monitoring Unit, Government Printery, Information Division,
Public Information, National Information Systems Centre, Radio and Television
and Telecommunications policy. Also falling under the purview of Mr. Maraj
is the Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT), National
Broadcasting Network Ltd. (NBN) Ltd, Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation
(TTPost), Board of Film Censors and the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad
and Tobago.
Mr
Maraj was born on January 21, 1949 at Rousillac, La Brea. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English
Literature and History from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine
and has taught at the Naparima College for 17 years.
Mr
Maraj has been actively involved in the Arts and the Theatre for over 25 years
and served as President of the National Drama Association for three (3) consecutive
terms. He was also the host of three
television series - Feedback, Book Talk and Cross Country.
Mr.
Maraj served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Public Utilities
previously during the period 1991 to 1995 and again as Minister of Foreign
Affairs from 1995 to 2000. He is the
Parliamentary representative for the constituency of Naparima.
Mr. Maraj is married
to Susilla and the couple has one son.
