THINGS TO DO AT THE LIBRARY

Activities for July - August 2005

Book an Adventure!

The theme of this year's reading programme at the Port of Spain Children's Library, Book an Adventure, seeks to convey the limitless enjoyment that can be derived from books, while including activities that would appeal to children of various learning styles and varied interests.

The reading programme will run for six weeks beginning on 11th July and ending on 19 August, and is open to all valid library card holders between the ages of 7 and 12.

More Vacation Activities!

The following events are listed according to age groups. All events are FREE! There is no need to sign up unless we request registration. Just drop in and come as often as you like. You don't even need your library card to attend these events.

INFANTS AND TODDLERS

Baby Lapsit

Drop in for 20 minutes of lap bouncing, shymes, tickles and cuddles for the littlest ones.
10:30 to 10:50 a.m. every Monday (except 1 August), from 18 July to 8 August.

Toddler Time (12 to 30 months)

Enjoy stories, songs and movement activities for toddlers, with a parent or guardian.
10:30 to 10:50 a.m. every Tuesday from 19 July to 9 August.

Toddler Jamboree

Fun and games for toddlers and their parents.
10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday 23 July 2005.

PRESCHOOLERS

A Basket of Stories (3 to 5 years)

Stories and craft activities for preschoolers. Daycare groups and preschool classes are welcome.
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. every Wednesday from 20 July to 10 August.

Teddy Bear Booknic

Bring your favourite book, your teddy bear (or any other favourite stuffed toy), and your parents, along for a morning of reading fun.
10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday 30 July 2005.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS

A Twist in the Tale (6 to 12 years)

Come and listen to tales of magic and wonder, of heroes and heroines, bloopers and blunders.
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Every Thursday from 21 July to 11 August.

Writing Workshop (9 to 12 years)

Do you like to write stories? Join us for these fun sessions where you write your very own picture book! Registration is required and each participant must attend all sessions.
2:30-3:30 p.m. Every Thursday from 21 July to 11 August.

Craft Crazy (9 to 12 years)

Let's Make Musical Instruments. Registration is required for each session.
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Friday 5 August 2005.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Family Movie Afternoon (all ages)

You've read the book, now come and see the movie!
3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday 22 July 2005.

Drama Workshop

Calling all budding actors and actresses!
2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday 27 July 2005.

Emancipation Celebration

3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday 29 July 2005.

Cartoon Drawing Workshop

Like to draw and want to learn more? This is the programme for you! Registration required.
2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday 3 August 2005.

Pyjama Party

Come in your PJs ... stay for the fun.
10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday 6 August 2005.

Meet the Author

2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday 10 August 2005.

Generations Together

Grandparents are welcome to share their stories with us.
10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday 13 August 2005.

"We Love Books" Day

Come dressed as your favourite character from your favourite book for a day of fun. Special prizes to be won.
All day Mondoay 15 August 2005.

Closing Ceremony

2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friday 19 August 2005.
