The department subscribes to the Library Solution Integrated Software package and the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) CatME database service in order to catalogue its material. The union catalogue is housed in the Library Solution cataloguing module. Our original records are visible on WorldCat. WorldCat is an online database maintained by OCLC and includes records submitted by over 67,000 member institutions around the world. This has been the true impetus for upgrading our cataloguing standards and insisting on conformity to them by all cataloguers.
Our database is regularly edited. However, some errors do slip through and if you would like to bring these to our attention, you may contact Anselma Mohammed at amohammed@nalis.gov.tt
Our aim is to catalogue, process and despatch all new material within three weeks of receiving them into the department.
We adhere to the Anglo American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd ed. Rev. (AACR2R), and the Dewey Decimal Classification 22nd ed. (DDC22) is used to classify our material. Subject headings are assigned according to the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). In addition, a list of local subject headings is maintained to better describe and create access to local material. Comments on, or requests for terms to be included in this list, can be sent to Anselma Mohammed at amohammed@nalis.gov.tt
