Description: This land deed relates to the survey and divisions of
lands in the islands of Grenada and the Grenadines and the Neutral islands
of St. Vincent, Dominica and Tobago. The lands were to be divided into
proper parishes and districts. They were also to be disposed of into allotments
for plantations of different sizes and extent, and into town-lots, positive
lots and lots for poor settlers. The Esquires William Young, Alexander
Graeme, John Hunt, Robert Stewart an d Robert Wynne were nominated, constituted
and appointed as the commissioners for the selling and disposing of the
said lands and on the said islands. After the death of Alexander Graeme,
William Hewitt Esquire was appointed as one of the Commissioners. Disposing
of the lands was to be done in conjunction with the Governor-General of
the Grenadines or the Neutral Lands or the Commander in Chief at the time.
In the absence of the Commander in Chief, the disposing of the lands were
to be carried out in conjunction with the Lieutenant-Governor of the island.
The islands were divided into parishes and other boundaries as they saw
fit. They also set apart proper lands in what they considered convenient
situations, for navy and other military purposes. The said party also
had to reserve in every Parish a certain number of acres of woodland in
the most mountainous parts, for preservation of the season, for several
other public and private purposes they considered important and for great
roads of communication between towns.
