In the wake of the devastation caused by hurricane Maria in Dominica, members of staff of the National Library and Information System Authority (Nalis) donated various items to the disaster relief effort. The Authority’s staff opted to donate items for children, five and under and hygienic items for women. Some of the items received at NALIS’ Head Office for distribution via the Living Waters Community to Dominica included canned goods, toiletries, feminine napkins, diapers, baby wipes, baby shampoo and powder and tins of baby cereal.
This is not the first time that members of staff have come together to assist persons in need. In addition to staff assisting staff who have lost belongings due to fires and other disasters, in 2010 staff assisted in relief efforts to Haiti after the catastrophic earthquake, and staff of the Debe Public Library collected and donated food items for persons affected by Tropical Storm Bret in June.
