Children attending a vacation programme at the Port of Spain Children’s Library on July 13 had the good fortune to meet Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Latin America, His Excellency Fernando Garcia-Casas who was on a tour of the National Library.
Accompanying him on the tour were His Excellency Javier M Carbajosa, ambassador of Spain to Trinidad and Tobago; Neil Parsanlal, Chairman of the Board of NALIS; Catherine Romain, Executive Director of NALIS; Caroline Kangalee, Acting Director Public Libraries Division, NALIS and Debbie Goodman, Manager, Corporate Communications for NALIS.
When questioned about their knowledge of Spain, the children belted out the correct answers, much to the delight of all.
The Secretary of State, in a brief ceremony earlier, had made a presentation of some 88 Spanish Language literature texts to NALIS’ Executive Director. The ceremony was co-ordinated by the Embassy of Spain as part of the Secretary of States’ three-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The books will be made accessible to the public.
